Repass

Helsport’s Framework for Circular Readiness

Case Study
11 August, 2025
Helsport, a trusted name in outdoor gear since 1951, is known for its dedication to quality, durability, and sustainability. When the company partnered with Repass, the objective was clear: to make technical product data more transparent and accessible, while integrating repair services and material insights into the customer journey. Through a focused collaboration, Helsport has taken a significant step toward redefining how outdoor gear is presented, understood, and maintained in the digital age.

As part of the Nordic research initiative Data to Business, led by the University of Borås, Helsport’s pilot project contributes to a broader EU-funded effort to accelerate the circular transition in the textile industry across the Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak (ÖKS) region. By leveraging Repass’ Connected Product Platform, Helsport now delivers Digital Product Passports (DPPs) that combine technical precision with customer-centric storytelling—empowering outdoor enthusiasts with the information they need, while reinforcing the brand’s long-standing commitment to responsible innovation.

Built for the Outdoors: Technical Data That Matters

Outdoor gear demands clarity. Helsport’s Digital Product Passports were designed to give end-customers immediate access to the most relevant technical features without requiring extensive searching. For sleeping bags, this included temperature ratings, insulation types, humidity resilience, and carrying weight. For tents, it meant showcasing material durability, waterproofing, and suitability for different use cases. Repass utilized its Materials module with custom fields to present this data clearly, while linking to Helsport’s website for deeper stories about down quality and fabric innovation.

Navigating Complexity: Challenges in Building a Transparent Outdoor Experience

Creating Digital Product Passports for Helsport was not only about presenting data. It was about designing a digital experience that reflects the brand’s legacy, technical expertise, and customer-first mindset. The project posed several unique challenges, each requiring thoughtful solutions to ensure the final product was both functional and inspiring. From balancing technical depth with usability to integrating repair services into the customer journey, the collaboration demanded precision, flexibility, and a deep understanding of outdoor gear and its users.

Key Challenges and How They Were Addressed:

  • Making Technical Data Accessible to Outdoor Enthusiasts
Helsport’s products include highly technical features such as temperature ratings, waterproofing, and weight, which are critical for safety and performance. The challenge was to present this information clearly and intuitively, especially for users planning expeditions or hikes where every gram and degree matters.
  • Balancing Detail with Simplicity
Too much technical data can overwhelm users. Helsport needed a way to surface the most relevant specifications up front, while still offering deeper insights for those who wanted to explore further. Repass helped structure the data so that essential information was immediately visible, with links to more detailed content for curious users.
  • Integrating Repair Services into the Customer Journey
Helsport’s repair philosophy is central to its sustainability goals. The challenge was to make this service visible, accessible, and actionable without requiring customers to leave the product experience. Repass embedded a repair form directly into the Digital Product Passports, streamlining the process and reinforcing Helsport’s commitment to long-term product use.
  • Creating a Scalable, Future-Proof Infrastructure
The solution needed to support Helsport’s long-term goals, including automation, CRM integration, and the ability to scale across more products and services. Repass built a flexible data model that could grow with Helsport’s needs, ensuring the platform remains agile and adaptable.

Designing for Real-World Use: Repass’ Approach

Repass approached the Helsport project with a clear goal: to create a digital experience that feels as reliable and intuitive as the gear itself. The team focused on usability, flexibility, and long-term value. Every element of the Digital Product Passports was designed to serve both Helsport’s internal needs and the expectations of outdoor enthusiasts.

This meant:

  • Prioritising clarity and speed in how technical data is presented.
  • Embedding interactive elements like videos, images, and links to Helsport’s website and social channels to keep users engaged.
  • Ensuring repair services were not just mentioned but fully integrated into the product experience.
  • Building a future-ready infrastructure that supports automation, CRM integration, and scalable data management.

By combining technical precision with thoughtful design, Repass delivered a solution that not only meets today’s needs but is ready to grow with Helsport’s ambitions.

Smart Infrastructure for Long-Term Impact

Beyond the front-end experience, Helsport now benefits from a robust data infrastructure within the Repass Platform. Product information, supplier data, materials, and production processes are structured and ready for scale. As APIs and automated data flows are implemented, Helsport will be able to connect systems, reduce manual work, and eliminate data duplication. Event-driven updates and source automation will keep product data accurate across all touchpoints, enabling faster launches and more responsive customer service.

Leading the Way in Outdoor Transparency

In a market where durability, trust, and sustainability matter more than ever, Helsport is setting a new standard. Their collaboration with Repass proves that technical data can be engaging, repair services can be empowering, and transparency can be a brand-defining asset. For outdoor enthusiasts, it means smarter choices. For the industry, it is a bold example of what is possible when legacy meets innovation.
